Sexual Immorality

The first man and woman were created by God. God made man special because he created man after his own image. God showed his approval of his new creation - the man and the woman - when he blessed them.

God intended the first man and woman to have a sexual relationship because he told them to be fruitful and increase in number. God looked at them and saw that they were very good.

Genesis 1:27-28,31
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; man and wife he created them. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it." God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

Jesus repeated to us that God made mankind to be male and female. God made men and women so that the man would leave his parents and be joined to his wife to form a new family unit. When a couple marries, God wants them to consider themselves as not separate individuals, but united.

Mark 10:6-9
(Jesus said) at the beginning of creation God "made them male and female." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.

In the marriage ceremony (with their family and friends present) the couple is joined together by God. Jesus warned that when a couple is joined together by God, man must not try and separate them.

Sexuality is a gift from God, created and blessed by him for married couples. God is angry with people who misuse their bodies. The Bible is very clear about how wrong it is for people to abuse this gift.

1 Corinthians 6:13-20
The body is not to be used for sexual immorality, but to serve the Lord; and the Lord provides for the body. God raised the Lord from death, and he will also raise us by his power.

You know that your bodies are parts of the body of Christ. Shall I take a part of Christ's body and make it part of the body of a prostitute? Impossible! Or perhaps you don't know that the man who joins his body to a prostitute becomes physically one with her? The Scripture says quite plainly, "the two will become one body." But he who joins himself to the Lord becomes spiritually one with Him.

Flee sexual immorality. Any other sin a man commits does not affect his body; but the man who is guilty of sexual immorality, sins against his own body. Don't you know that your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God; he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God's glory.

The Bible warns us strongly many times about the dangers of sexual immorality. God warns us about its danger because he knows how very destructive it is for us. Not only is it sinning against yourself, but it can bring terrible shame and guilt upon you and your family - it brings fatal diseases and can create children outside the sanctuary of marriage. Most importantly, people who break God's law cannot inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be fooled! Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards will inherit the kingdom of God.

Hebrews 13:4
Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

In the beginning God designed and blessed the sexual relationship between a man and a woman. He designed it to be a beautiful thing, but only when used as he intended. King Solomon wrote beautiful things about love with his new bride.

Song of Solomon 7:9-12
Your kisses are as exciting as the best wine, smooth and sweet... I am my beloved's and I am the one he desires. Come, my beloved, let us go out into the fields and stay in the villages. Let us get up early and go out to the vineyards and see whether the vines have budded and whether the blossoms have opened and whether the pomegranates are in flower. And there I will give you my love.

Proverbs 5:18-20
Let your manhood be a blessing; rejoice in the wife of your youth . Let her charms and her tender embrace satisfy you. Let her love alone fill you with delight. Why delight yourself with prostitutes, embracing what isn't yours? For God is closely watching you, and he weighs carefully everything you do.

God says no to sex outside of marriage because he loves us. He loves us so much that he sent Jesus Christ to die as a sacrifice for our sins. Here are some more scriptures which tell us about God's love and plan for us.

Ephesians 5:5
For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of God.

John 14:21
He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Matthew 5:27-28
You have heard that it was said, "You shall not commit adultery." But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
